September, 2018 Newsletter

Our September 8th  meeting was attended by 28 members.

Rich Enders reported we have a balance of $2,151.80

The president’s challenge was to turn a spindle with a minimum of 2 coves and 2 beads.  Winners in the Advanced category were:  1st place: Erik Blom, 2nd place: Ron Olin.  In the Novice category Cletus Brooks 1st, and Henry Timmerman was 2nd.

 

Cookies were provided by Jim Reamer.  Marion Timmerman signed up to bring cookies for the October meeting. 

 

Local craft shows:

  • Oct 6: Saline Woodcarvers show at old Liberty School on AnnArbor-Saline Rd.  I believe the show starts at 10 AM.  Tim Parker found out that that all woodturners are also welcome. A 6′ table costs $15. I was told they have about 300-400 people attend. If anyone is interested call Tom Jacobson @ 734-476-3441.
  • Oct 13-14: Dayton Woodcarvers 37th Annual Artistry in Wood at the Roberts Centre, 123 Gano Road, Wilmington OH 45177 More info at http://daytoncarvers.com/artistryinwood.html
  • Oct 27-28: 32nd Annual Woodcarvers show and Sale at Sauder’s Village, Archbold OH.  The show is Saturday 10-5 & Sunday 11-4.  More info at https://saudervillage.org/classes-events/details/2018/10/27/default-calendar/31st-annual-woodcarvers-show-and-sale
  • Dec 2-3”The Huron Valley Club also has a holiday show. It sounds like they get a pretty good turnout and sell quite a bit of stuff. It costs $15 per table and 20% of the sales go to the Crossroads Community Center where the sale is held.[also their meeting location] The building is located on Webster Church Road, Dexter Mi. The President’s challenge for the October meeting is a turning with embellishment (dying, staining, painting, etc.)

Our October meeting will be on Saturday, October 13 at  10 AM at Christ Epsicopal Church.

Jim Nickless will be doing a demonstration on making a peppermill.

 

Bring items for show and tell and raffle, as well as the president’s challenge.
