October, 2018 Newsletter

Our October 12th  meeting was attended by 21 members and 1 guest, Basak Durgun.

Rich Enders reported we have a balance of $2,213.80

The president’s challenge was to turn an  embellished piece.  Winners in the Advanced category were:  1st place: Erik Blom, 2nd place: Tim Parker.  In the Novice category Ron Birdsall 1st, and Rick Kimling was 2nd.

Cookies were provided by Marion Timmerman.  The Finns signed up to bring cookies for the November meeting. 

 

Local craft shows:

  • Dec 2-3”The Huron Valley Club also has a holiday show. It sounds like they get a pretty good turnout and sell quite a bit of stuff. It costs $15 per table and 20% of the sales go to the Crossroads Community Center where the sale is held.[also their meeting location] The building is located on Webster Church Road, Dexter Mi. If anyone is interested Dan Konyn is the contact and his email is dankonyn@gmail.com

Upcoming Regional shows:

I encourage anyone who is not a member of AAW to consider joining.  I am attaching a scan of the current promotional flyer.  I will also have copies at the meeting.  I will also have some membership application forms.   Here are some additional benefits to signing up now:

  • All AAW members will be entered in a drawing for a Powermatic 3520C Lathe. In addition, that winner can select a chapter to receive either a Jet 1642 lathe or five Jet mini lathes.
  • Chapter members have a chance to win tuition scholarships for 2019 courses at craft schools. Details will be available soon.
  • AAW members each receive up to $1 million in insurance per incident when performing services for AAW or AAW chapters

Craft supply offers a program where club members can combine their orders and get free shipping and a discount.  Are any of you interested in participating?  I will try to get all the details for the November meeting.

The President’s challenge for the November meeting is to turn a candlestick.

Our November meeting will be on Saturday, October 10 at  10 AM at Christ Epsicopal Church.

Das Madhavan will be doing a demonstration on creating basket weave illusion on turnings. 

 

Bring items for show and tell and raffle, as well as the president’s challenge.
