Upcoming Regional shows:

I encourage anyone who is not a member of AAW to consider joining.  I am attaching a scan of the current promotional flyer.  I will also have copies at the meeting.  I will also have some membership application forms.   Here are some additional benefits to signing up now:

  • All AAW members will be entered in a drawing for a Powermatic 3520C Lathe. In addition, that winner can select a chapter to receive either a Jet 1642 lathe or five Jet mini lathes.
  • Chapter members have a chance to win tuition scholarships for 2019 courses at craft schools. Details will be available soon.
  • AAW members each receive up to $1 million in insurance per incident when performing services for AAW or AAW chapters

AAW is again offering Craft School Scholarships.  Only AAW members are eligible.  We will have a drawing at December meeting for one person who will be entered in the AAW drawing.  Classes are at either Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg TN (www.arrowmont.org) or John  C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown NC (www.folkschool.org)  If you are interested you can still sign up at the December meeting.  We will have a drawing after break to determine whose name we will submit for the raffle.

We will have election of officers at the December meeting.  I will run again for President, Rich Enders is running for Treasurer.  I am still looking for persons willing to run for Vice-President and Secretary.  Please give this consideration and let me know if you are willing to run.

At the December meeting Rich Enders will start collecting dues for 2019 membership.  Dues are $35.  Checks should be made out to MIOH Woodturners.  I will also have sheets there for you to verify your email, address and other information to ensure our records are up to date.  Please take time to review your information even if you are not paying your dues at this time.

Bill Weber brought a sample shirt with the MIOH Woodturners logo as well as a sales sheet listing the different items available. I am attaching a copies of both the sales sheet and an order form.  Please note the prices on the order form include 6% sales tax. I want to give everyone time to review this and decide what they want to order.  We will be placing an order after the January meeting so you can bring the order form and a check to the January meeting.  You can bring your order form and check to the December meeting, but we will not place an order until after the January meeting.  The club will pay the shipping charges if you order with the group order.  You can order on your own at a later date but you will be responsible for the shipping.

Craft supply offers a program where club members can combine their orders and get free shipping and a 10% discount.  So far six members have expressed interest in participating.  We will plan on sending in an order after the January meeting.  If you are interested, go to the Craft Supply website www.woodturnerscatalog.com and pick you items.  Start making a list of items you want.  I will send out a form to everyone next month that you can bring to the January meeting.

The President’s challenge for the December meeting is to turn something using plywood.

Our December meeting will be on Saturday, December 8 at  10 AM at Christ Episcopal Church.

Scott Solsburg is scheduled to do a demonstration on Christmas ornaments.

Bring items for show and tell and raffle, as well as the president’s challenge.

I am attaching an AAW article about ‘Bowl Hunting’  and a humorous story about harvesting a maple burl.

See you December 8th.
