Our May 11th meeting was attended by 31members and six
guest: Bruce Kinney, Ed Yeary, Don Neekamp,
Dan Sharp, Blackcrow Meij, and Francis Shaffer.
Rich Enders reported a balance of $2,692.67. In addition we took in about $450 at the Great Lakes Arts Festival
Tom Jones gave a recap of the Great Lakes Arts Festival. Our booth had a crowd both days, all
day. There was a wait to turn pens with about a constant two people
waiting in line. Lynn Southward did the assembly and Tim Parker and
Rick Kimling did most all of the pen turning instruction. They were super with
the public. Das Madhavan, Erik Blom, Karen Finn, and Dave Finn did bowl turning
demonstrations. Rich Enders brought the canopy which worked perfect and
helped out where ever needed. Lynn, Rick, Tim, Rich, and Tom were there
all day both days. We had good response from both the Woodworker studio
and public. Thanks to all members who helped with this event.
A
suggestion was made to purchase a reasonable face shield for the club to keep
with the lathe. Bill Weber is going to Woodcraft before the next meeting and
will pick one up. Bill also agreed to take
brochures and business cards to leave with Woodcraft
Tom
brought up our mentoring program for the new members/guest
and told them to contact any of the board members if they would like some one-on-one
help and we would set them up with an experienced member they could meet with.
Erik Blom, talked about the lacquer
he uses on his metal art and some of the members asked if we could send out the

The president’s challenge was to turn a basic bowl.
Winners in the Novice category were Karen Finn, 1st, and
Wayne Miller, 2nd. In the advanced Category Das Madhavan was 1st
and Erik Blom was 2nd.

The president’s challenge for
the June meeting is to finish
the bottom of a bowl. Judging to be done
with the bowl/platters/vessels presented upside down.
Lynn Southward gave a demonstration on jam chucking bowls
to clean / finish the bottom.
