June, 2019 Newsletter
Our June 8th meeting was attended by 20members. It was held at Erik Blom’s place.
Rich Enders reported a balance of $3512.45
The president’s challenge was to finish the bottom of a bowl. Winners in the Novice category were Dave Finn, 1st, and Karen Finn, 2nd. In the advanced Category Rick Kimling was 1st (and the only entry)
Snacks were provided by Erik Blom
Several members brought flag bases which Jim Nickless took to the VA. Thanks to all who donated flag bases this year.
Erik Blom and his friend Cindy Yates, who is a Detroit Area Woodturners member, gave demos at the meeting. Cindy demonstrated the Carter captive roller hollower and steady rest. Erik demonstrated his Jameson hollowing system and some other ways he does hollowing. He then gave an example of how he applies dyes to his platters. Thank you Cindy and Erik for good demonstrations, and to Erik for hosting the meeting.
As discussed in the June meeting our club will be participating in Artalicious Fine Arts Fair on Sept 20-21 in downtown Adrian. We will have a 10 x 20 tent. We will have three lathes set up and give people the opportunity to turn a pen. So far I believe Tim Parker, Rick Kimling, and Jim Nickless are working on getting 100 pen blanks ready to be turned. I am sure they are looking for others to help with the turning during the show. I’ll have a sign up sheet at the next meeting. I believe we will also be able to display member’s turnings. I’ll get clarification of the details for the next meeting.
Due to member interest, we will be placing another order with Craft Supply. We will place the order after the August meeting so members have time to get their orders together. I am attaching the order form to this newsletter.
