Monthly Newsletter from Len Coleman, President
There was a good turnout—20 members and 3 guests—for the July meeting. I was on a riverboat cruise and could not attend. Thanks to Tom Jones for standing in for me. Lynn Southward gave a demonstration on his experience in building a violin. I realize this was not a turning demonstration, but I think it is good to see a member’s creativity in other woodcrafts.
Artilicious will be taking place again this year in downtown Adrian. It will be a one-day event, on Saturday, September 18, from 11:00 AM – 7 PM. We will have a booth again this year and do some turning demonstrations. We will have a signup sheet. We need volunteers to help with set up and tear down, as well as helping with demonstrations. Artilicious will also have the birdhouse auction in the library, so start working on your birdhouses to donate. We will have more details later about when and where to turn in your birdhouses.
Our next meeting is August 14 at 10:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church. I will miss the meeting again since I will be on a vacation to Branson, Missouri. I will be at the September meeting!
As I have indicated at the last meeting, the officers of our club are now in the third year of our two year term. Our club by-laws call for a tenure of two terms. We really should be holding elections in the near future. Please consider running for one of these offices. You can be assured that the current officers will be around to assist you. Contact any of the officers if you have any questions. I know we have had a couple of people step forward for the Vice-President position and to cover the audio visual portion. We still need someone to step forward for other offices.
The president’s challenge for the August meeting is to turn a musical instrument. An example would be a whistle. I am giving a loose interpretation to “musical instrument” to include anything that makes sound (eg a bird call).
The demonstration for August is still being finalized. I’ll let you know when it is set.
Please bring items for show and tell and for the raffle.
Keep turning—safely
Len
