The president’s challenge was a bowl or platter with dye or other embellishments. Dave Finn won 1st in the Novice catrgory. There were no other entries. In the Advanced category Lynn Southward was 1st and Erik Blom was 2nd.
Snacks were provided by Dave and Karen Finn
The Demonstration was by Dave and Karen Finn. They discussed various lathe accessories, focusing on items that make turning easier. They did a great job for their first time demonstrating.
Jim Nickless received a letter from the Ann Arbor VA thanking our club for the donation of flag bases Thanks to all who donated flag bases this year. And a big thank you to Jim for collecting them and delivering them to the VA.
Marian Timmerman advised us of the Tecumseh Lions Reverse Raffle on September 10. Tickets are $50. They are looking for turning projects members would be willing to donate for their silent auction. If you have something to donate you can bring it to the August meeting and give it to Marian.
As discussed in the June meeting our club will be participating in Artalicious Fine Arts Fair on Sept 20-21 in downtown Adrian. We will have a 10 x 20 tent. We will have three lathes set up and give people the opportunity to turn a pen. Thanks to Tim Parker, Rick Kimling, and Jim Nickless and others, we will have 100+ pen blanks ready to be turned. I am sure they are looking for others to help with the turning during the show. I’ll have a sign up sheet at the next meeting. I believe we will also be able to display member’s turnings.
Due to member interest, we will be placing another order with Craft Supply. We will place the order after the August meeting so members have time to get their orders together. I am attaching the order form to this newsletter.
I received a call from Pam Warden. She and her husband make furniture. They are looking for someone to turn table legs for them. If you are interested, contact Pam at 517-388-2087
