Meeting Minutes From Dave Finn, Secretary

January 11, 2020

The Meeting was called to order by President Len Coleman at approximately 10 a.m.

There were 24 members present and no guests

We are saddened by the death of Club member Mark Wehner, who passed away early this morning. We will miss his cheerful, friendly attitude…

January birthdays include: Eddie Weaver 14th & Bill Weber 30th

Treasurer Rich Enders Report:

The Club paid the Church $300 toward the repair of the floor finish in our meeting area and hallway. Our previous lathe stand contributed to scuffing of the finish, so the Board voted to reimburse said amount.

We were previously paying the Church a rental fee of $300 at the end of the calendar year. The Board decided to now pay our rent in advance, so we paid the Church $600 to cover 2019 and 2020 calendar years.

Current balance: $2,803.66

Announcements included:

Snack sign-up sheet for 2020 is still being circulated. We are covered through May. Thanks to Randy Maynard for today’s delicious cookies!

Membership Dues of $35 are being collected. Please pay Rich Enders today or at February’s meeting

The Club will be hosting a demo by nationally known turner Cindy Drozda in February. We are asking her to feature her famous Finial Boxes. We are also hoping she will have time to explain/demo the negative rake scraper. Those were the top two requests of the poll we have been doing leading up to February’s meeting. More details will be coming in emails and on the Club Website.

AAW 2020 Symposium is in Louisville, Kentucky June 4-7

AAW announcements included a discussion of Craft School Scholarships and upgraded Website

Len Coleman is continuing to improve and update our Club Website. Beside new photos from Club Meetings and new announcements, you might find some interesting new features! Remember to visit it often… Thanks to Len for his hard work and perseverance!

There were no Safety Concerns this month. Lynn Southward is recovering nicely from last month’s mishap.

Mark Anderson of Adrian is downsizing his supply of wood. He has “a ton of wood” that he doesn’t need any more. There is some suitable for turning, and some flat wood, including white oak planks. He’s offering it at very reasonable prices, or less. Contact him at 517-270-0789 for details.

Show and Tell, Raffle, and Snack Break followed

January’s President’s Challenge was to turn a noise-making animal call

Novice winners were: Ron Birdsall 1st, Eddie Weaver 2nd

Advanced winners were: Lynn Southward 1st, Tom Jones 2nd

Tom Jones gave a very interesting demo on Marbeling Turned Objects. It turned into a “hands-on” event when he asked Karen Finn to assist him, then other members were so intrigued, they joined in! Thanks, Tom, for keeping our hobby interesting, and our Club current with the latest trends!

Since our next meeting will be the Cindy Drozda Demo, there is no President’s Challenge for February

President Len Coleman then closed the meeting

Minutes respectfully submitted by Dave Finn, Secretary
