January, 2018 Newsletter

Our January 13 meeting was attended by 26 members and two guests.

The president’s challenge was to turn a bud vase.  Winners in the Advanced category were:  1st place  Mitch Mathis and 2nd place Scott Solsburg.  In the Novice category Tim Parker took 1st and Rick Kimling 2nd

Tom Jones did a demonstration in our series on hollow forms. 

As I mentioned at the meeting, AAW has a New Member Incentive Program that started December 4.  For just $20, individuals who have never been AAW members may sign up for a three month introductory AAW membership using a credit card at http://tiny.cc/ITM2040. Only new members are eligible.

 

 Upcoming shows:

  • Tennessee Association of Woodurners 30th Annual Symposium was in Franklin, TN 1/26/2018 – 1/27/2018. Bill Weber attended, and will hopefully be able to share his experiences at the February meeting.
  • The Adirondack Woodturners Association is presenting Totally Turning 2018on March 25 & 25, 2018 in Saratoga Springs, New York. Here’s a link: http://www.totallyturning.com/

The demonstration at the February meeting will be “How I fixed it”: repairing mistakes to salvage turnings.

The President’s challenge for the February meeting is to turn a hollow vessel with the opening smaller that the diameter of the vessel.

Our February meeting will be on Saturday, February 10.  I am back from Florida so I will be there.  I had an opportunity to attend the Emerald Coast Woodturners Guild in Freeport, Florida.  I will share some pictures I took of some great turnings
