Our August 10th meeting was attended by 26 members and two guests, Pat Doran and Ron Gootee

Rich Enders reported a balance of $3120.60

The president’s challenge was a pair of candlesticks.  Ron Birdsall  won 1st and Henry Timmerman won 2nd in the Novice category.  In the Advanced category Jim Nickless was 1st.  There were no other entries in the advanced category

Bob Seeberger resigned his position as Board Member-at-large.  An election was held to fill this position.  Bill Weber was elected to fill the remainder of the term.

Tom Jones agreed to stay on temporarily as Vice-President of the club.  However, Tom would like to step down from this position which he has held for several years.  Please consider taking this position.  Tom will assist his replacement in learning the duties.  Contact any board member for more information

Snacks were provided by Len Coleman.  Rich Enders signed up to bring snacks for the September Meeting.

The Demonstration was by Dave Finn.  This was a follow-up to last month’s demonstration.  Dave demonstrated using some of the accessories he showed us last month.  He did some preliminary turning on a birdhouse.

Marian Timmerman advised us of the Tecumseh Lions Reverse Raffle on September 10.  Tickets are $50.  They are looking for turning projects members would be willing to donate for their silent auction.  If you have something to donate you can bring it to the September meeting and give it to Marian.

Our club will be participating in Artalicious Fine Arts Fair on Sept 20-21 in downtown Adrian.  We will have a 10 x 20 tent.  We will have three lathes set up and give people the opportunity to turn a pen.  Thanks to Tim Parker, Rick Kimling, and Jim Nickless and others, we will have 100+ pen blanks ready to be turned  We will be giving demonstrations on bowl turning.  We will also be able to display member’s turnings.  .  I had  a sign up sheet at the meeting for helping with set up, pen turning assistance, bowl turning, manning our information table and assisting with tear down.  I am attaching the form with names entered for those who have already committed to help.  Please review and consider signing up for open time slots.

As part of the Artalicious Art Fair, there will be a silent auction of birdhouses for the Not Just For The Birds! Auction fundraiser.  Funds raised will support Lenawee youth art programs.  You can take your birdhouses to The Adrian District Library, 143 E. Maumee St., or bring them to the next meeting.  Tim Parker has volunteered to take them to the library.  The Auction Committee requests a form be filled out for each birdhouse.  I have attached a file with this form that you can print and fill out.

We will be placing another order with Craft Supply.  We do not yet have $1000 of order so you can still submit your order at the September meeting.  As soon as we have at least $1000 of orders we will place the order.  I am attaching the order form to this newsletter.

Scott Solsberg donated his old bandsaw to the club.  This is a welcome addition that will certainly get used.  Thanks, Scott, for your generosity.

The board has decided to upgrade the table for our lathe.  Tom Jones, Rick Kimling, and Dave Finn have been working on it.  They have added new wheels, lowered the spindle height and added a new top that will be long enough to mount the band saw when needed.

Upcoming Events

The president’s challenge for this month is to turn a birdhouse.  Instead of the usual novice and advanced categories, this month the categories will be miniature and full-size bird houses.  We are asking you to consider donating your birdhouse to the Artalicious auction, but it is not mandatory to do so.  You can bring more than one bird house for the auction, but only one can be entered into the president’s challenge.

Bring items for show and tell and the president’s challenge and the raffle.

I hope you have all had a chance to look at the updated website.  www.miohwoodturners.org    Please let me know what you think.  I am open to suggestions.

Happy Woodturning
