Meeting Minutes From Dave Finn, Secretary
April 10, 2021
The Meeting was called to order by President Len Coleman at approximately 10:15 a.m.
(Delay was caused because the locks were changed on the Church doors)
There were 18 members present and no guests.
Treasurer Rich Enders Report: Current balance: $1,872.69.
Announcements included:
Birthdays: Bill Weber, Denny Demuth, Rich Enders, Ken Goetz, and Ron Birdsall.
Len read a letter from Jim Nickless explaining his recent loss of hearing.
Snack sign-up sheet for 2021 is still being circulated.
Bill Weber started a discussion on the online Symposium. If you pay for a demo, you will also be able to re-watch it afterwards.
Safety:
Al Goldstein messaged that Cole Jaws can release without warning. Len reminded us that different bumpers are available, and we should strive to use the correct ones for the project.
Tom Jones warned that the lowly random orbit sander should not be taken for granted. He recently had a sanding disk release from the pad, becoming a flying object capable of causing serious injury.
Das reminded us not to become complacent with our table saws. He was cutting a 2×4, it caught on the fence, and kicked back, striking him. “It hurt for a little bit!” he was heard to say.
Scott presented Show & Tell, which included over fifty items brought in by members.
The regular raffle was followed by a Special Raffle: Rich Enders donated a sizable Hickory Burl. Tickets were $5 each. Proceeds go to the Club treasury.
Snack Break followed.
Tom Jones showed several JPEG photos collected from members, showing what we did during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Len Coleman then presented how he is continuing to improve and update our Club Website.
President’s Challenge was to turn a drinking vessel:
Novice winners were: Karen Finn 1st, Len Coleman 2nd
Advanced winners were: Scott 1st, Jim Nickless 2nd
Discussion about new officers being needed!
Len’s Presidents’ Challenge is to submit something for the website.
President Len Coleman then closed the meeting at 1:01 p.m.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Dave Finn, Secretary.
Monthly Newsletter from Len Coleman, President
It was so good to be able to meet again. We had a good turnout. There were a LOT of items in the show and tell. Many good conversations took place as members caught up with each other.
Our next meeting is May 8 at 10:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church.
Bill Weber will be presenting a demonstration on turning a live edge bowl.
There is no president’s challenge for the May meeting. The demonstration in April was me going over our website, which didn’t lend itself to a challenge.
Speaking of the website I have updated the AAW articles for April.
Please bring items for show and tell and for the raffle.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. You can email me at president@miohwoodturners.org or papalen4@gmail.com or call me at 419-579-6688.
Keep turning—safely
Len
